About This Cooperative
Daahuk is moving forward to establish its 5th cooperative initiative with the resilient farmers of the Chilmari region in Kurigram, one of the finest jute-producing regions in the upper Brahmaputra basin. Jute, once cultivated collectively within families, now faces decline due to climate change, delayed rainfall patterns, and severe labour shortages during the harvesting season. As a result, production has decreased significantly, leaving jute as the “lonely crop.”
We are working to address these challenges by strengthening 'collective community resilience.' There remains a critical gap between advanced cultivation technologies and the farmers at the root level. Daahuk aims to bridge this gap through effective technology transfer, enabling farmers to sustain and revive the legacy of jute, Bangladesh's very own Golden Fiber.
